The Special Enforcement Detail (SED) is a multi-tasked assignment tasked with gang suppression, graffiti suppression, vehicle theft, and burglary suppression, fugitive apprehension along with other duties or assignments. This unit conducts surveillance and undercover operations as needed. SED officers also serve in a plain clothes capacity, foot patrol, monitoring of drinking establishments, and other functions not suitable for uniformed officers.
The Special Enforcement Detail currently has a sergeant and two officers assigned at this time. Over the years SED has recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen property and vehicles. Graffiti in the city has decreased and numerous dangerous criminals have been arrested due to the effectiveness of this unit. SED is also used for short term crime suppression in areas of the city that has active crime series and hot-spots. This unit also assists the detective bureau with violent crimes and major cases.
