The Cathedral City Police Department Detective Bureau consists of a group of dedicated men and women who are responsible for continuing criminal investigations that are initiated by the patrol officer.
Employees assigned to the Detective Bureau are multi-talented and can perform a variety of tasks related to the successful conclusion of a criminal investigation. These talents include meticulous case preparation, the processing and storage of physical evidence, crime analysis and crime scene preservation. Detectives respond to crime scenes in pairs, using the “team concept” to investigate a reported crime with an emphasis on using community oriented policing philosophies. Detectives are assigned investigations based on categories, such as crimes against property, crimes against persons, domestic violence and child abuse. By specializing in certain types of investigations, Detectives develop an expertise in their related categories and are able to develop specialized relationships with members of the community.
In addition, there are multi-agency detective teams available, such as the Gang Task Force, the Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force and a position as a high school campus officer.
